Right Field |
When one keeps score of a baseball game, right field is designated number 9, the last of positions. Although the last listed, players who man right field must be good defensively and possess a strong arm to hold runners at second base or throw out would-be runs at home plate. Usually the player with the best outfield arm plays this critical position. Right fielders are traditionally some of the best hitters on the team and the best who ever played the position are some of the greatest sluggers of all time. Ever hear the phrase “out in left field?” It was coined
to refer to fans who got a ticket in the left field stands to see Babe
Ruth play—but the Babe was always in right field. |
