This collection consists of copies of items opened, in whole or in part, as a result of Ford Library compliance with the President Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992. This legislation mandated the review of all records related to President Kennedy’s assassination. In some cases this may be the only location in the Library where the item is currently available for research as the documents were often selected from unprocessed collections. Material concerning the work of Morton and his assistant Timothy Austin in advising the President in the period between February and April 1976. As a Counsellor to the President, Morton often advised the President on a variety of issues, but his files focus on political affairs, especially White House liaison with the Republican National Committee and the President Ford Committee and the Ford - Reagan contest for the Republican presidential nomination.

Ford created the commission in response to continuing conflicts among U.S. amateur sports organizations and declining performance by the U.S. in the Olympic games and other international competitions. There are extensive files on individual sports and related organizations, especially the Amateur Athletic Union, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and the United States Olympic Committees.

Materials relating to both an effort in 1960 to secure the Republican Vice Presidential nomination for Ford and Ford's 1970 and 1972 congressional election campaigns. Also included are records related to the 1968 Nixon campaign activities in Michigan. Among other materials are a few Jack Stiles White House files concerning the book, Portrait of the Assassin, President Ford's papers, a pro-Ford song, and an audio recording of a television program featuring the 1972 Michigan Fifth Congressional District Democratic primary election candidates.
