The collection contains materials primarily documenting the public side of diplomacy, especially Henry Kissinger's public statements and press conferences (1974-75) and Robert Anderson's later positions as U.S. Ambassador to Morocco and the Dominican Republic.

Prominent topics include the 1964 Republican Party platform; the 1964,1968, and 1972 presidential campaigns; Congressional Republicans in the 1960s; the Vietnam War; a wide range of Defense Department procurement, planning, and policy issues, both regional and global; many domestic policies; Nixon White House efforts to avoid impeachment; and Mr. Laird's post-government activities. Material accumulated by the Social Entertainments Office including the memorandums, correspondence, invitations, entertainment programs, menus, guest lists, and seating arrangements for all of the social events at the White House, Camp David, aboard the Presidential yacht, and occasionally during State visits abroad. The Daily Diary is a minute-by-minute log of President Ford's official and social activities, noting attendees at meetings and persons to whom he spoke by telephone, and where and when these contacts took place. Little on the substance of meetings and calls appears in the collection, however. The collection includes multiple copies of the typescript Diary, source materials used in its compilation, administrative files of the compilers, an electronic version created by scanning it into a full‑text searchable database, and a selected name and geographic index.
