Part of the material covers Hartmann’s early years at Beverly Hills High School and Stanford University, as well as his service in the U.S. Navy. Among the family photos he collected are images of his ancestors dating back to the 1880s. Subjects represented in materials related to his work for the House Republican Conference and on Gerald Ford's Congressional staff include military activity during the Vietnam War and Hartmann’s trip to China in 1972, as well as portraits of various Republican candidates. This series also includes images of many of President Ford’s trips as well as various dinners and parties that the Hartmanns attended during the Ford administration.
