Bronze jue wine cup, dated to 1300-1100 B.C., Shang Dynasty. Starting in the Neolithic periods, the absence of furniture meant that most activities took place at ground level. Thus, functional ceramic and bronze vessels were given high footings to make them more suitable for ritual use. This was certainly characteristic of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties.
