Pierre du Pont's desk set

Often considered the father of the modern corporation, Pierre du Pont took over leadership of his family’s ailing DuPont Company. Pierre diversified the company’s product line from solely blasting powder and gunpowder to a wide variety of household and industrial products. His vision made DuPont one of the largest chemical companies in the world. He had a hand in creating another gigantic corporation, General Motors, making it Henry Ford’s biggest rival in the auto industry.
