Congressional Area

Gerald Ford entered Congress, representing Michigan's 5th District, in 1949. He would win election 12 more times before being made Vice President in December 1973. As Congressman, Ford served on the powerful Appropriations Committee and rose to the office of Minority Leader of the Republican Party.
