Catcher

Y Berra

The most grueling position on a team easily is catcher.  The player must spend most of his time crouching behind the plate, wearing a mask, shin guards and pads on the hottest days of summer while catching 90 mile an hour fastballs.  Yet the catcher is responsible for managing the game and calling the pitches.

Catchers who are also offensive weapons are rare.  No catcher has ever collected 3,000 hits or joined the 500 home run club.

The Best at Catcher: Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench, Mike Piazza, Roy Campanella, Ivan Rodriguez

The Best of the Rest: Carlton Fish, Mickey Cochrane
