The Ford Library research room will close at 2 pm on December 24th and 31st. The lobby exhibit area will remain open until 4:45 pm on those days. The Library will be closed on December 26th.

Congratulations to the Fall 2014 Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation Research Travel Grant recipients.
The Library opened the Robert Orben Papers, 1947-2005. This collection contains materials relating to Robert Orben’s comedy writing career encompassing his work as a humor consultant and speechwriter for television personalities, corporate clients, and politicians. Materials compiled during his tenure as speechwriter for President Ford are also included [40 linear feet (ca. 65,000 pages)]. View the collection's finding aid.
The Library processed the U.S. Secret Service. Executive Protective Service Files, 1974-77. This collection contains records created by the Executive Protective Service in the performance of their duties of securing the White House and Old Executive Office Building facilities and grounds, and protection of the President and the First Family. The records document the visitors to the Oval Office, President’s Private Study, and Cabinet Room, and the movement and activities of the President and the First Family at the White House. The bulk of this collection consists of group lists and individual appointment cards of visitors [124 linear feet (ca. 225,000 pages)]. View the collection's finding aid.
This collection is blanket closed. Researchers may contact the Library for information about how to appeal the access restriction decision of individual documents.

Congratulations to Amanda Demmer, recipient of the 2014 Gerald R. Ford Scholar Award in Honor of Robert M. Teeter, and the Spring 2014 Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation Research Travel Grant recipients.
The Library opened the White House Central Files. Bulk Mail File. Nixon Pardon Children’s Letters File series [5.7 linear feet (ca. 10,400 pages)] and the Amnesty File series [21 linear feet (ca. 38,400 pages)]. View the collection's finding aid.
The Library also opened accretions to the audiovisual materials from the Arthur Burns Papers.
The Library has posted a list of documents declassified in whole or in part through the Mandatory Declassification Review process during the months of April to June 2014. You can also see lists of documents declassified in earlier quarters. Researchers may contact us for additional information about the newly opened documents or to order copies.
Please note that Mandatory Review is but one of the methods through which Ford Library documents are declassified. Many additional pages are opened each month through systematic declassification review and returns from the Remote Archive Capture project.

The Library opened for research the Frederic W. Slight Files, (1969-73) 1974-77. This collection contains material prepared or compiled by Slight documenting his work assisting Counsellor to the President Anne Armstrong and in communications office activities. There are extensive materials related to Spanish speaking Americans and White House communications [9.2 linear feet (approximately 17,000 pages)]. View the collection's finding aid.
The Library also opened the General Subject File, (1969) 1977-87 [5.5 linear feet [ca. 10,000 pages] from the Arthur Burns Papers.

The Library opened for research the Warren Rustand and William Nicholson Files, (1973) 1974-77. This collection contains correspondence, calendars, schedules, schedule proposals, briefing papers, Cabinet meeting minutes, foreign travel requests, and publications compiled or created by Presidential Scheduling office staff that document Scheduling Office operations and the activities of the President, First Family, Vice President, Cabinet, and political appointees [28.6 linear feet (approximately 52,000 pages)]. The Library also opened the Personal File, (1969-74) 1978-87 [12 linear feet [ca. 22,000 pages] from the Arthur Burns Papers.
April 21, 2014
The Library opened the Shirley Peck-Barnes Papers, 1967-2005. The collection contains correspondence, newsletters, newspaper clippings, research materials, and artifacts relating to Shirley Peck-Barnes’ involvement with Friends of Children of Vietnam and “Operation Babylift,” (the evacuation of orphans from Saigon during the closing weeks of the Vietnam War). After the 1975 Babylift, Barnes remained active in Babylift adoptee matters and eventually wrote The War Cradle: The Untold Story of “Operation Babylift” [5.3 linear feet (ca. 10,500 pages)]. The Library also opened for research the following series from the Warren Rustand and William Nicholson Files: Long Range Planning File [4.3 linear feet (ca. 7,900 pages)]; Presidential Briefing Papers File [3.7 linear feet (ca. 6,700 pages)]; Invitations File [2.5 linear feet (ca. 4,800 pages)], and Publications File [0.5 linear feet (ca. 1,000 pages)]. A finding aid will be published after the entire collection has been opened.
The Library opened for research the following series from the NSA. NSC Staff for the Middle East and South Asia Files: Kissinger Trip Files, 1974-76 [0.8 linear feet (ca. 1,500 pages)], and Presidential Briefings Files, 1974-75 [1.2 linear feet (ca. 2,200 pages)]. A finding aid will be published after the entire collection has been opened.

Contact Cards File, ca. 1969‑ca. 1985. (0.8 linear feet) series from the Robert Anderson Papers.
The Anderson Papers and Knauer Files are now fully processed.
