Melvin R. Laird Papers

Gerald R. Ford Library

Finding Aid

The Laird Papers  is a large manuscript collection with a complex arrangement.  It consist of 36 series with some significant overlap between the contents of the various series.  Therefore we recommend that you begin your examination of the finding aid by reading the finding aid introduction and series descriptions through the first link below.

One large segment of the collection has been fully reviewed by the Library staff and is open to research (although individual documents may still be restricted under NARA or donor restrictions).  The second link below allows you to view the container list for this portion of the collection.

Another part of the collection is not yet open to research.  The third link below allows you to view the container list for this portion of the collection.  Some of these series are closed pending declassification review and two are closed under provisions of the donor's deed of gift.  For all other series, individual folders may be added to the Library's Review Queue and the staff will review them for opening.  Please contact archivist William McNitt for more information.
