Material on items the President gave to friends, visitors, heads of state, congressmen and government officials, to commemorate special occasions, State visits, meetings and gatherings, trips, the Bicentennial, Christmas and other events. The gifts include presidential cuff links, tie bars, pins, bracelets, paperweights and pens; signed photographs; bound speeches and the oath of office, engraved pewter George Washington cups and calculators for Christmas; and carved redwood plaques for the Bicentennial.

GI 2: Gifts to the President or his Immediate Family

Material on gifts to the President, and occasionally his family, especially from the general public, but also from friends, public officials, meeting attendees and foreign dignitaries. They were presented upon Ford's inauguration, at meetings and ceremonies, for the Bicentennial and during trips and holidays. Objects were often given by their creators, especially autographed books, paintings, sketches and cartoons, photographs, recordings, carvings and sculpture. Ford also received personal gifts including food, ties, pipes, sports items and pieces with a patriotic or religious theme. Many were handmade.

Material on gifts and on the policies regarding gift-giving and receiving between the United States and individuals, groups or other countries. The majority covers domestic and foreign Bicentennial gifts which were considered birthday gifts to the nation, including patriotic items such as flags and bells, works of art such as paintings, scrolls, music and poetry, handwork such as quilts, models and carvings, and several trees. Also are donations of land, estates, money, wildlife and other items.

The majority commemorate the Bicentennial, but also include State visits, foreign trips and special occasions.
